A socket has a lock structure to protect it from un-synchronized access. The kernel creates one connected socket for each client connection that is accepted. Can be activated by defining LWIP_SOCKET to 1. The recv() call is normally used only on a connected socket (see connect(2)) and is identical to recvfrom() with a NULL src_addr argument. The local address of the socket must be known. It is unlikely that send()/recv() would be dropped; perhaps someone with a copy of the POSIX drafts for socket calls can check. These terms refer to the two processes which will be communicating with each other.
